About YouGlowGirl
From as early as I can remember, makeup has been my passion. Many of my childhood photos capture me playing with makeup, more fascinated by its transformative power than by dolls. My mom, aunts, and grandma always emphasized the importance of self-care, making an effort, and maintaining a radiant skincare routine. Each of these women taught me something unique but all of them have contributed to, and influenced, whom I have ultimately become. My journey started in High School when I played make-up artist to friends who attended their matric dances. At just seventeen, I had the privilege of doing my first bridal makeup, solidifying my dream of becoming a makeup artist. I knew that one day I would be a make-up artist, however, my path was not linear.
I ventured through different industries, each shaping the makeup artist I would eventually become. Initially, I planned to study Special Effects Make-up and work on movie and photo shoot sets. However, life took an unexpected turn when I was discovered for modeling during my corporate days. For a few years, I graced the very sets I had once dreamed of working on, but as the one in the makeup chair. During this time, I met incredible, talented make-up artists who imparted invaluable knowledge about make-up techniques, industry tips and tricks, and product insights. The wisdom I gained from spending hours in make-up chairs was unparalleled, far surpassing what any training academy could offer.
I have been blessed to do make-up for celebrities and, in 2017 and 2018, I won an award for my bridal make-up work. Determined to refine my skills, I attended various courses and masterclasses, studied beauty therapy, and in 2014, I proudly opened my own salon. Every lesson learned, every personal experience, every bride I have beautified, every woman I have helped, and every face I have touched brought me a step closer to the birth of YouGlowGirl. For years, women have sought my guidance on applying their own makeup and using brushes effectively. What seems like second nature to me, can be very intimidating for the everyday woman. This inspired me to host my own make-up workshops where I show women how to apply their make-up, how to use brushes correctly and teach them tricks that experience have taught me.
These make-up workshops were a total success, and from the desire to learn, and to teach, the YouGlowGirl seed was planted. The mission behind the YouGlowGirl brand is to provide women with beautiful make-up brushes that is multifunctional, easy to use but also excellent quality so that the professional make-up artist can add it to their collection. During the process of sourcing brushes, the range was extended to lip gloss, setting spray, other beauty tools and shimmer body oil that is a staple for any event. And this is just the start. Every product currently in the range, and those which will soon be added, was carefully sourced, tested by me personally and approved by my beauty enthusiast friends. Along the way I have supported other female-owned businesses who helped breathe life into YouGlowGirl.
The range is paraben-free, sulphate-free, cruelty-free, vegan friendly and proudly South African! It is inspired by women who want quality, accessible and affordable cosmetics and it will grow based on what YOU want and love! I hope you enjoy these products as much as I love creating them.
